South of the Skunk River, the Narlmarches become even more difficult than the north. The thickets are filled with bubbling bog slime, the howling of horrible beasts, and the laughter of fairies planning cruel jokes. But nothing is scarier than the moments when everything goes quiet — in these moments, a deathly silence hangs over the marshes, and eerie, pale fires appear behind the gnarled trees.
