The Nature of the Beast is a quest in Pathfinder: Kingmaker.

The trolls living in these woods can't content themselves with being normal, terrifying trolls: these greedy-gut gluttons aren't afraid of fire, which is totally unlike trolls! Now isn't that a swinish trick? Some passing trader, who'd nearly become lunch for one of those beasts, told us that there's a wizard living nearby. Maybe this learned scholar could help us solve the riddle of the fireproof trolls?

It shouldn't be difficult to find the wizard's house: there's a path from the road to his dwelling.
  • The woods surrounding the house are lined with various traps. I wonder – is this wizard trying to protect himself from trolls? Or from something or someone even more dangerous? Perhaps we should ask him!

The wizard found an odd brand on the troll's body. He went somewhere to deal with some matters, and told us to wait in his laboratory. A real wizard's laboratory! I hope we (well, I mean me) have enough self-restraint to keep our hands away from all his magic stuff…

What a surprise… The wizard turned out to be a creepy lunatic! Fortunately, he's staying away from us, at least for now. But I wouldn't turn my back to him. Uh-uh, no way.

Kill the troll[]

Meet the wizard in his laboratory[]

  • Go to Bartholomew's Laboratory and approach Dimwit or attempt to exit it.
  • During the dialogue you will get to decide what to do with Dimwit: Kill, release or keep it. It can be done with the following alignment choices:
    • [Free it] (Chaotic Good)
    • [Keep it] (Lawful Neutral), (Neutral), (Lawful Evil)
    • [Kill it] (Neutral), (Chaotic Neutral)
  • If Valerie is in the party and you decide to kill or free the troll on initial choice, she will intervene and you will have to make another alignment choice:
    • [Free or Kill it] (Chaotic Good)
    • [Keep it] (Lawful Neutral), (Neutral)
  • If Octavia is in the party and you decide to keep the troll on initial choice, she will intervene and you will have to make another alignment choice:
    • [Free it] (Chaotic Good), (Neutral)
    • [Keep it] (Neutral Evil)
  • If left alive, Dimwit will be seen after New Troll Sightings event attacking Bartholomew Delgado in his laboratory.
    • Even if you kept the troll, you can talk to Bartholomew Delgado again and order him to kill the troll.
  • Keeping the troll is necessary for non-Neutral characters to persuade Bartholomew Delgado to become your advisor.
