Tristian is a companion in Pathfinder: Kingmaker. He is a neutral good human cleric of Sarenrae.
Biography[]
Tristian is a priest of Sarenrae who hails from the Padishah Empire of Kelesh, where he was raised in a temple as an acolyte after being left by his parents. He claims that since youth he has had a special relationship with his goddess which was often remarked upon by his peers and manifests as divine protection when his life is in danger. He traveled to the Stolen Lands to investigate the curses in the region and purify the land.
Interactions[]
Tristian is one of the three new companions to recruit in the first chapter. When you first meet him at the Temple of the Elk, he is half-eaten alive by a monstrous bear. Clean the location from monsters so he can join your party, unless you came here after finishing A Bitter Rival quest under the Old Sycamore (in that case he will become available in the second chapter). Since the beginning of chapter 2 he chills in the company of Jhod Kavken near the capital inn entry. Player will have to choose whether to take Tristian to finish the main quest in The Varnhold Vanishing chapter or not, this will have long-term consequences. Also Tristian will leave your party in the chapter 4, possibly for a long time. Can be romanced by a female main character.
Camping[]
- Camping Special Role
- Everlight's Blessing: Tristian prays to merciful Sarenrae, doubling HP recovery and regeneration from ability damage.
- Favorite Meal
- Shepherd's Pie: +1d6 to Channel Positive Energy for one day.
- Kameberry Pie: +5 to Lore (Religion) checks for one day.
- Black Linnorm Stew: +2d6 to Channel Positive Energy and +3 to spell DC when using cure spells to deal damage to undead creatures for one day.
Starting statistics[]
- Backstory special abilities
- Chosen of Sarenrae: Sarenrae will automatically save Tristian from dying and teleport him to a safe location should he fall in battle. (You have to return to the capital to retrieve him again.)
Starting Equipment[]
Position in court[]
Tristian can be appointed to the court position of Councilor (Loyalty). As Councilor he will support strongly the small folk. Note that he will leave your party and court for some time in chapter 4, so it may be wise to read about the alternatives for the Councilor position beforehand.
Role in the party[]
Ecclesitheurge can not wear armor, and Tristian can not take Monk level due to his alignment, so crossbow it is. Low Dexterity and lack of feats will not allow him to hit anything till at least level 7 (he's even better at demoralizing enemies or using his Blessing of the Faithful ability at low levels). But aside from his disappointing martial abilities, Tristian is a very decent caster with great variety of spells (especially good with spells that don't require an attack roll), a great healer (including combat), and his special abilities from class and domains are very useful. You hardly need two clerics in your party at the same time, so take your pick: him or Harrim. But remember that Harrim will never undermine your party by leaving it out of the blue.
Trivia[]
- His favorite food is Shepherd's Pie, an allusion to the role of a priest as shepherd of his deity's followers.
- If both are in the party, Tristian and Harrim will debate theology and the meaning of mortal life during their camp banters.
- Tristian frequently expresses curiosity during camp banter about Linzi's work writing the history of the Stolen Lands, but teases her on occasion about her writing style.
- Although he argues for mercy for the human cultists of Lamashtu (even going so far as to hesitantly advocate religious tolerance), he is opposed to allowing Nok-Nok and his followers to continue worshipping at the shrine established by Nok-Nok.
- Several companions remark on Tristian's strict adherence to the teachings of Sarenrae and benevolent demeanor - Linzi questions if he's actually hiding some dark secret, remarking that he seems unrealistic and would be difficult to accept as a character in a story, while Jaethal mocks him for presenting himself as above others.
