Witch Hunt is a quest in Pathfinder: Kingmaker.

Journal[]

Dark times have come to our long-suffering barony. The number of people infected by the mysterious blight continues to grow. Many scared people are fleeing lands they believe to be doomed, while those who stay are entertaining ideas of rebellion. But, that's the point of utter darkness — to let the beam of hope shine ever brighter! While others strain their brains in laboratories and chasing dodgy goblins, Kesten Garess, a loyal vassal of our {baron/baroness}, begain his own investigation and found something so nasty that it demanded {His/Her} Grace's personal attention.
Read Kesten's note +135xp 1_ReadKestensLetter (c2f7ac2144da111429365bfb3a2aa818)
Jhod has brought a note from Kesten. The tight-lipped fighter wouldn't bother the {baron/baroness} without a good reason, so the matter must be urgent!
Meet Kesten near the Shrine of Lamashtu on Moonday — the first day of a week +135xp 2_MeetKesten (4f95fbee33669da4db038b8e99f2fad6)
You know what they say: a quick mare is in time everywhere! While the {baron/baroness} was busy handling matters of state, Kesten became a militia leader and put the makeshift force to good use! The loyal vassal managed to lead a full-scale investigation and find traces of the cult of Lamashtu, goddess of monsters, nightmares, and everything else perverted and crooked. It's time to crush this evil before it spreads throughout the whole barony! The Shrine of Lamashtu is located to the south of the capital.
Ambush cultists of Lamashtu near the shrine +135xp 3_AmbushPriests (955d40e211e245941a1692d398f07e9f)
It's time to deal with the followers of this abominable cult. We just need to wait for the right moment.
  • The cultists fell into our trap. Hit them now!

Catch the fleeing cultist +180xp 4_CatchThePriest (7eebfaf45501cf240ad895b72c960621)
One priest managed to get away! Get him!
Find the priest of Lamashtu among the lodge dwellers +180xp 5_FindThePriest (b2cac13cc9b845d4d96c6d71cbd441a9)
The tracks led us to a solitary lodge full of strange and suspicious people. Any one of them could be our runaway. We don't even know if it's a man or a woman — it's hard to tell with all those black robes and hoods. We'll have to sort it out ourselves somehow — or maybe ask Kesten to do it?
  • Throwing out accusations at random will get us nowhere — we need hard evidence. We should probably chat with the locals and then check their rooms.
    FindThePriest_Add1 (1a20b4500550591458e6a12e3b071fef)
  • We know one thing for sure — our cultist limps on their right leg!
    FindThePriest_Add2 (3ec8c51bd36478046951db777c34655d)
  • Right, this "kitchen maiden" limps — just like our robed runaway!
    FindThePriest_Add3 (e2ec5c684e3f258418b41bd21435ba5d)
  • Unless this Tsanna is intentionally trying to poison her masters, her cooking skills are way below average!
    FindThePriest_Add4 (321b2af70809b6e4eae97f4e8af5032c)
  • Aha! It looks like something was burned in the stove just before our arrival!
    FindThePriest_Add5 (2e48d40cde6531543b19dfd3738ce0c5)
  • Cabron Tedrim claims he'd come to the barony to hunt, but he knows almost nothing about hunting — even less than I do! What a ridiculous idea, searching for cougars in the swamp!
    FindThePriest_Add6 (05ee3858214ca9c40b653af963216337)
  • Cabron Tedrim became quite jumpy after the {baron/baroness} told him {he/she} had heard about him earlier. What's he trying to hide so bad?
    FindThePriest_Add7 (7402a94bacd6db0499f218256ab80390)
  • There wasn't even a hint of weaponry in the room belonging to the Restov nobles. What are they planning to hunt with? Are the going hunting at all?
    FindThePriest_Add8 (005775cc1401aa94192f6883bb809d6f)
  • Una Tedrim is definitely not sincere when she says she likes the place. This moneybag must have serious reasons to stay in this hole — reasons she doesn't want us to know about!
    FindThePriest_Add9 (43db04a903b99b141b084bc4e3e2a8d2)
  • Cabron Tedrim may have failed spectacularly when he was asked about his bows, but his wife, Una, was so cool and composed! There's no doubt — the last word in this house belongs not to the husband, but to his actress of a spouse, who only pretends to be a perfectly obedient wife!
    FindThePriest_Add10 (32734ff310453784a9bc87c4ff9b9f8c)
  • Olika is definitely hiding something. She claims she's going to live with her sister, but there's no sign of her son around. What kind of mother would leave her own blood behind?
    FindThePriest_Add11 (6e20b34036a27754f8cea14730a39ce9)
  • What a nightmare! Olika seemed so meek, but we found a pile of bloodstained cloth in her room! Did she kill someone? Or does she collect souvenirs from the sacrifices to Lamashtu?!
    FindThePriest_Add12 (9284994e4c0df7d459c58f0ee9ca882f)
  • According to Olika, she's traveling from Galt to Grathon. That sounds perfectly normal, but how did she end up in the Stolen Lands? They're in the complete opposite direction! She should at least brush up on her geography before trying to lie straight to our faces!
    FindThePriest_Add13 (5ca951b2e9b24ef4da93a2a72218a3a9)
  • There aren't many women in the world grumpier than this Dumra! She looks none too pleased at our arrival.
    FindThePriest_Add14 (9bc6077d597ba2e478549fc37ec05fed)
  • On the other hand, why waste time? Getting them all together and asking some uncomfortable questions might be just as effective! That's what our cunning {baron/baroness} has decided, at least!
    FindThePriest_Add15 (b520a74f5eae70344bf35937cfe8a646)
  • As soon as we asked the Restov guests about their room, Una Tedrim started sweating! What has her so worried? Is there something to find among their things?
    FindThePriest_Add16 (e90f1e217d4bd1d498f0b860d2e07fca)
Interrogate the suspect about the role of the Lamashtu cult in recent events +600xp 6_Interrogate (d6d94072bd9458541b48e4dc3b45cb40)
Time to ask some questions and get some honest answers!
We managed to catch the surviving Lamashtu cultist and get her confession — alas, it wasn't what we wanted to hear! Seems the source of the blight spreading across the barony wasn't the Lamashtu cult. Let's hope we find some other leads to get the answers we seek!

Walkthrough[]

  • After receiving the letter from Kesten, travel to the Shrine of Lamashtu, which is now unlocked to the south of the capital city.
  • After entering the area, speak with Kesten. The current day must be a Monday to start an ambush cutscene.
  • Kill the cultists and exit the area through north passage.
  • Book Event (Witch Hunt) will start. After finishing it you will appear in Secluded Lodge.
    • In the book event you have to pass array of skill checks:
      1. Dexterity DC 17 +28xp, if failed then Reflex DC 18 +33xp, if failed then book event ends.
        • Passing those checks leads to:
          1. [Choose Character] Perception DC 20 +45xp, if failed then Intelligence DC 13 +11xp.
          2. [Choose Character] Athletics DC 20 +45xp, if failed then Strength DC 15 +13xp.
        • Passing any of those checks awards extra +180xp and end the book event.
      2. Mobility DC 21 +56xp, if failed then Reflex DC 10 +9xp, if failed then book event ends.
        • Passing those checks leads to:
          1. [Choose Character] Strength DC 18 +33xp, if failed then Intimidate DC 20 +45xp.
          2. [Choose Character] Dexterity DC 18 +33xp, if failed then Perception DC 20 +45xp.
        • Passing any of those checks awards extra +180xp and end the book event.
  • Once in Secluded Lodge you can begin the investigation or let Kesten handle it, but former is preferred.
  • The suspects are: Dumra, Olika, Kabron Tedrim, Una Tedrim, and Tsanna.
  • You can talk to all of them, they would point fingers at one another, but the text is mostly flavor. However you can get the keys for their rooms.
  • You can inspect the following objects:
  • After you have gathered all the evidence you need, talk to Kesten Garess. Your options are:
    1. [Chaotic Only] Gather all the people and let them talk.
    2. Let Kesten follow his intuition, he will choose Dumra as suspect.
    3. Tell Kesten to interrogate a person of your choice.
  • If you made the wrong choice, the priest of Lamashtu will summon four Summoned Redcaps.
  • If you made the right decision, you get an extra +360xp.
    • Note: The priest of Lamashtu will use Slay Living spell at your main character on the first turn. If you had pointed a wrong target, the priest won't reach you, but if you pointed the right target the priest will be just in range to land a spell on you. Might worth to point a wrong target for those who play Last Azlanti mode.
Tsanna is the priest of Lamashtu.
  • After defeating them, you will be given the choice of what to do, both with the priest and the guests at the lodge.
    1. (Chaotic Good) or (Chaotic Evil) to let them all go.
    2. (Lawful Good) to banish the priest and let others go.
    3. (Lawful Neutral) to execute the priest and let others go.
    4. (Lawful Evil) to execute everyone except the hostess.
  • If you choose any of the Lawful choices Olika will beg you to let the priest to perform the ritual to save her child.
    • If you agree and the sentence for the priest was execution, the priest will request you to change it to banishment instead. (Chaotic Good) to agree and (Lawful Evil) to refuse.
If you let Tsanna go, you could meet her in Shrine of Lamashtu after that and recruit her as an advisor.
